Shopping by Design

What do you get when you cross a harried mother, four sugared-up children and a mall? Mayhem!

Tomorrow our photographer will capture a little magic between me and my girls. While he's all about the art and tech of the shoot, I'm tasked with shuttling my little Sisters around to find coordinating outfits that show off our personalities.

Note to Self: Don't (ever again) sugar them up at Friendly's before marathon-shopping.

Second Note to Self: Hire a sitter and spend less money. Seriously, I'm much more inclined to buy what is convenient when I'm lugging around four less-than-chipper children under the age of 10.

Third Note to Self: Love on those same little munchkins who hold open doors for elderly ladies and tell me how much they love me despite the fact that my hairy eyeball has grown to three times its normal size.

So, do you want to know what we decided on? I'll give you a little hint:

You'll have to wait until later to see the whole picture!

Fun at Secret Keeper Girls Event

This year, Sonflower Sisters is working through Secret Keeper Girl's 8 Great Dates With Your Daughter: The Gift of True Friendship. We were excited to learn a Secret Keeper Girl event would be held near our home. Eight of us moms set out for a night filled with fun, laughter, and secrets with our daughters.

We rode to dinner with one of Brooke's best friends.
I love that Brooke still loves to snuggle on up to me in public. I'm going to eat it up for as long as it lasts.
All the Sisters loved singing and dancing to amazing worship songs. Still, they managed to stay still long enough for a group shot.
Thanks, Sisters, for making last night so special. We'll never forget it!

God's Girls: A Crafty Way to Teach Your Tween Daughter About Jesus

When my oldest daughter was only five, I knew I wanted to buy these books for her.

"Preteens will be captivated by this series, which combines devotions about Bible women with crafts created especially for girls. From weaving belts to decorating their rooms to planning peppy parties, girls will learn that fun and faith are both part of God's plan for their lives."

If you buy one of her books on my recommendation, please drop the author a note to let her know you found out about her at SonflowerSisters.com.

September 11, 2001

My little Sonflower Sister was barely one year old, and still sleeping. I'd snuck downstairs to check email. My mother instant-messaged me to tell me about the first plane to hit a tower in New York City. Immediately, I thought: Terrorists? That wasn't even a word in our vocabulary back then. I ran upstairs and turned on live television coverage just in time to see the second plane hit the tower. All the while, my baby slept snug and cozy in her bed. And all I wanted to do was wake her up so I could hold and protect her.

How did the events of 9/11/01 affect your and your daughter?

Welcome Fall

Some of the best things begin in crisp autumn air.

I'm excited to launch the new Sonflower Sisters blog while feeling the cool breeze roll in the front of my house and out the back.

Be sure to stop by often to read stories of Sisters and how God is working in and through us.

Blessings,
Deb

A Little Old-Fashioned Fun

We made ribbon barrettes! If you grew up in the 70's, you remember these fun, colorful baubles.

They're so simple to make. Just buy the bar barrettes (Goody makes them and sells them at various Targets and Walmarts). Choose your ribbon colors; cut 18" lengths of each and tie together at one end.

Tuck up under the top enclosure and alternate weaving the ribbons around and through the middle.

Simply tie it off at the end in a double knot,
add beads to the ends,
and proudly wear your new fashionable barrettes, custom made to coordinate with your outfits.

While we crafted. I shared stories of my childhood with the girls. What precious time together.
